Fiji Drua wins, resets NRC course

THE Fijian Drua rugby team made a courageous catch-up in the second last round of the National Rugby Championship on Saturday to edge Melbourne Rising 40-36.

They keep their hopes of retaining the title despite trailing 7-26 in the first-half.

The Senirusi Seruvakula-coached team showed Melbourne Risings that they were not out of the match yet and turned the table in the final five minutes to keep their hopes of a semifinal spot.

The Fijian Drua continues to progress through all aspects of play in the NRC for the past few rounds being the most consistent team with 3698 metres gained in six matches.

According to the NRC team statistics, the Fijian Drua leads the table in many areas of the game such as successful conversions, penalty goals, carries, clean breaks, off-loads and turnovers conceded.

From seventh place last week the Drua managed to move to fourth place after six rounds they’ve accomplished two wins, two losses and two draws with 13 points in total and table toppers the Western Force leads with 19 points.

The Drua scored six tries.

They were from: fullback Peceli Nacebe; inside centre Cyril Reece; winger Jiuta Wainiqolo scored a double; hooker Ratu Naisa Navuma; and fly half Serupepeli Vularika.

They play Queensland Country at 3pm on Saturday at Lawaqa Park.
