A man wanted in India over an alleged investment fraud involving the equivalent of about $555,000 has been deported from Fiji following a joint operation involving Indian authorities and Fijian officials.
According to India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Rahul Shamrao Kalokhe was deported on Thursday after being located in Fiji through an Interpol Red Notice.
Indian authorities allege Kalokhe cheated a businessman in the city of Pune by promising monthly investment returns of between 6 and 8 per cent through stock market investments.
The alleged fraud involved Rs23.8 million, equivalent to approximately $555,000 at current exchange rates.
Pune City Police registered a cheating case against Kalokhe in 2025, while a second cheating case has also been filed against him by police in Ahilyanagar.
The CBI said Kalokhe fled India to evade investigation and legal proceedings.
Following a request from Maharashtra Police, the CBI secured an Interpol Red Notice, which enabled authorities to trace and arrest him in Fiji.
After completing the required legal processes, Kalokhe was deported to India, where he arrived on 30 July accompanied by an escort team from Indian law enforcement.
