The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has rejected criticism that the electricity tariff consultations underway in the Northern Division are mere box-ticking exercises.
The regulator stressed that the sessions are designed for direct, one-on-one engagement with ordinary Fijians, ensuring that every voice is heard in shaping the tariff submissions.
“This is not a box-ticking exercise. We are conducting face-to-face consultations where we meet directly with members of the public to explicitly ask for their feedback,” said CEO Senikavika Jiuta.
“We are actively recording views and concerns regarding the tariff submissions on the ground.”
The consultations are being rolled out across the Northern, Western, and Central Divisions.
Jiuta announced she would be at the Nadi session held at the FNPF plaza from 10 am to 3 pm to hear directly from attendees.
A 21-day window has been established for all interested parties to submit their views.
To help consumers understand the impact of the proposed tariff, the FCCC has introduced a “Bill Calculator” tool, allowing users to input their consumption and estimate potential changes to their bills.
