A father and son are in police custody following an alleged assault in Sigatoka that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man.
Fiji Police said the two suspects are being held at the Sigatoka Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.
Police said the alleged assault occurred on Sunday, August 9, after the victim and two 16-year-old students confronted the suspects about an incident involving one of the victim’s farm animals.
The 38-year-old man and the two students were allegedly assaulted by the father and son.
According to Police, the victim was later found unconscious by his brother and had sustained injuries.
All three victims were taken to Sigatoka Hospital for medical treatment.
Due to the seriousness of his condition, the 38-year-old was transferred from Sigatoka Hospital to Nadi Hospital and later to Lautoka Hospital.
Police said attempts to revive the man at Lautoka Hospital were unsuccessful.
The father and son remain in custody at the Sigatoka Police Station while investigations continue.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the 38-year-old man’s death.
