A family trip to Nadi International Airport last Friday turned tragic when 84-year-old Maurice Carter Bing lost his life in a road accident near Tagaqe Village along the Queens Road.
Mr Bing was travelling to farewell his daughter, Cindy, who was preparing to return to her home in Auckland, New Zealand, after spending time with her father at the family residence in Navua.
According to a family member, the vehicle veered off the road at about 3pm, crossed onto the opposite side of the highway and ended up in a roadside culvert.
Mr Bing later succumbed to injuries sustained during the accident.
His daughter and the driver also sustained injuries. They were initially admitted to Sigatoka Hospital before being transferred to Lautoka Hospital on Saturday morning for further medical treatment.
The family member said the accident had brought immense sadness to the Bing family, their relatives and the wider Wainiveidio community as Mr Bing was a much-loved family patriarch.
Police have not responded to queries on the incident.
