More than a hundred families from the Nagonenicolo District of Naitaisiri raised $95,000 for a scholarship fund and trust fund.

The scholarship will finance the tertiary education of Nagonenicolo youths and the trust fund is to help organise a commercial arm for the scholarship.

“We managed to raise funds for the tikina, for the purpose of the Nagonenicolo Scholarship Fund,” said the former permanent secretary for Public Works Taitusi Vakadravuyaca, who was chief guest.

“The fund is to support the education program, especially for the tertiary education youths of Nagonenicolo and we have also launched the Nagonenicolo Trust Fund to help organise a commercial arm of the scholarship.

“To sustain the scholarship fund, a person over 18 years of age will have to pay $20 per year towards the scholarship fund.”

Mr Vakadracuyaca said there are about 60 Nagonenicolo students from 12 villages who are recipients of the fund.
