Police Development fought a defiant Army side to the very end to clinch a 13-12 victory and lift the winning trophy at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl Competition 2024, at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on Saturday.
The entirety of the match was a closely contested one as both teams engaged in a fierce duel of rugby to yield the other, however a missed conversion by Army landed into a win for the Nasova men instead.
Silio Finau, manager of the winning side, acknowledged the team’s victory and considered the showdown a challenging one, in an interview with The Fiji Times yesterday.
“It was a tough game yesterday (Saturday), but the boys had given their all and that’s why it turned out to be like that yesterday,” Finau stated.
He emphasised the words delivered by Acting Police Commissioner, Juki Fong Chew in a church service for the team a week prior, where he reiterated the outcome of Saturday’s matches, and ultimately other competitions needed to be a win.
Following the conclusion of the Sukuna Bowl, Finau mentioned the team will continue their preparations and work towards moulding formidable players who can be included in the force’s main squad as well.
He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the team’s sponsors, fellow officers and the team’s families for their support.
Meanwhile, “WIN” was an acronym conceived by the force in the lead up to the Sukuna Bowl and stood for Whiskey-India-November.
