Extradition bid for Pryde ongoing – FICAC

THE Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) yesterday informed the Magistrate’s Court that its extradition efforts against suspended Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde were still in progress.

FICAC counsel Lilian Mausio appeared before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad.

The case was adjourned to March 27, 2026, for mention, to allow an update on the service of disclosures.

Ms Mausio told the court that an officer had travelled to New Zealand to serve the disclosures on Mr Pryde, however the attempt was unsuccessful as he was not at home.

She said FICAC has since engaged a New Zealand-based bailiff to carry out the service.

Once completed, an affidavit of service would be filed.

Magistrate Prasad said the court needed confirmation that the disclosure had been properly served before the matter could proceed.

He said the next court date would check whether the service had been completed and whether Mr Pryde had indicated his position regarding the proceedings.

FICAC is seeking Mr Pryde’s extradition in relation to corruption-linked charges.

The court noted that progress would depend on the outcome of the service of disclosures and the filing of the required affidavit.

Meanwhile Mr Pryde issued a statement yesterday stating he is deeply concerned after three men — who his neighbour was told were Fijian government agents — “conducted covert surveillance outside his Christchurch home and questioned his neighbour about his family”.

He has filed a police report in New Zealand and is demanding answers on who authorised the operation and why foreign agents were allowed to act “with impunity” on New Zealand soil.
