Ba Rugby Union strategy planner Jeremy Duxbury says he is “pleasantly surprised” with the standard of competition during the Ba Tikina Championship.

The championship kicked off last weekend at the Vinod Patel Park grounds in Ba.

“At the end of the day, we were just very satisfied with how good the standard of rugby here is in the province of Ba,” Duxbury said.

“We were pleasantly surprised with the standard of the men’s, women’s and the juniors because we believe in the concept that this competition will raise the standard of rugby in Ba.”

Duxbury added that everyone was excited about round two which will be played this weekend.

“It is bringing all the tikina together very nicely and that is exactly what we had wanted, because we have to think as a tikina rather than an individual club.”

He said the competition provided a much-needed lift for the women’s competition in Ba.

“Lot of big and fast women in the competition, which was also the first competitive women’s rugby match we had in Ba.

“The Rooster Chicken Women’s Shield competition will really lift the women’s game here,” Duxbury said.
