EMERGENCY funds needed to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure was removed by the previous government.
Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau said this was one of the reasons Government had to redo the Fiji Roads Authority budget when they took over from their predecessors last year.
“One of the issues we found when we came in was there was no budget for emergencies — for emergency road repair,” said Mr Tuisawau.
“So, we’ve redone the FRA budget.” Mr Tuisawau said repair works for the recent flooding events would begin once the weather improves.
“They cannot be repaired during wet weather. “So, we will wait for that to pass and then the recovery works will start.”
