The Government will begin replacing the ageing Suva Golden Age Home and expand residential care for older persons under the 2026-2027 National Budget.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran announced the initiatives while contributing to the budget debate in Parliament on Monday, saying the investments formed part of the Government’s efforts to improve care facilities for Fiji’s elderly population.

“We are systematically addressing aging infrastructure across the country,” Ms Kiran said.

“This budget enables us to commence work on replacing the Suva Golden Age Home, which has far outlived its structural lifespan at about 80 years old.”
