THE damn levels at Monasavu and Nadarivatu are low.

This has been confirmed by Energy Fiji Limited CEO Hasmukh Patel in a press conference today.

He said compared to previous years, the rainfall in the past two months was low.

“As we come towards the end of the year, we expect rain to start falling. If you compare last year with this year, we had 1200millimetres of rain in October last year. This year, we had only 313mm of rain in October which is below the long term average of 390mm,” Mr Patel said.

“In November last year, we had 284mm of rain which is below the long term average of 476mm and this year in November, we have only received 203mm of rain to date.”

Mr Patel said while the levels are not at a critical stage as yet, warned if it does not rain in December, EFL could run into some difficulties.

He has appealed to the customers of EFL to use power wisely.

The safety levels at the Monasavu Dam is 725m above sea level, and the critical level is 715m above sea level.
