Children from early childhood education centres across the Suva Education District gathered at Albert Park over the weekend to celebrate the official opening of Early Childhood Education Week 2026.
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro launched the week-long celebration, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to strengthening quality early learning opportunities for children throughout Fiji.
He said this year’s theme, “Together for Every Child’s First Step: Early Learning and Endless Possibilities” highlighted the importance of giving children a strong educational foundation before they begin primary school.
Early years play a vital role in a child’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical and language development, the minister said, adding that quality early childhood education lays the foundation for future success and contributes to the country’s long-term development.
The event also recognised the contribution of Fiji’s 1435 early childhood education teachers, including 300 in the Suva Education District, as well as parents and families who play a key role in children’s early development.
Mr Radrodro said the allocation of $34.176 million for early childhood education in the 2026-2027 National Budget, an increase from $32.336m in the previous financial year, was to support quality and inclusive early learning across the country.
