Excitement fills the air as Fiji Football under-15 girls’ co-captains Shania Singh and Miliana Maramanikabu gear up to lead their team into the OFC U15 Development tournament, set to kick off tomorrow at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.
This marks a significant milestone as it’s the first time a national U15 girls’ team will participate in a regional event. Both captains are honoured to pioneer this journey for the U15 national team.
Shania Singh, 15, a student at Rishikul Sanatan College, expressed her enthusiasm for the week-long tournament, viewing it as a prime opportunity for the players to showcase their talent.
“This is a big opportunity for all of us and I’m so glad to be part of this team. It’s new and it’s a good opportunity for us to show our talents in this competition.
“We have prepared ourselves well and we bond well with each other; we have good connection and hope to win this competition,” Singh said.
Their opening match tomorrow will be against Samoa at Churchill Park at 4pm.
Acknowledging Samoa’s strength, Singh remains optimistic about their performance.
“Samoa is a good team, but we hope for a good performance,” Singh said.
Co-captain Miliana Maramanikabu acknowledged her father, who she says consistently encourages her to give her best, particularly in sports.
“I want to thank the Lord for this opportunity to lead my team, we have been training everyday and I always want to improve my game every time.
“I thank my dad for always encouraging me to always put God first in everything I do,” says Maramanikabu, a Year 9 student of AD Patel College in Ba.
