THE McDonald’s Fiji Drua Women will head into their opening round clash against the NSW Waratahs in Sydney today with confidence and strong team energy, according to vice-captain Kolora Lomani.

Lomani said the squad has built good momentum through their pre-season preparations, including two trial matches over the past fortnight.

“It’s been good. I think the vibe and the energy is there from the girls.

“I think we’ve had a good prep this whole week. We had the two trial matches the past two weeks and it was a good build up for our round one,” Lomani said.

The Drua will also unveil a fresh-look side, with 10 debutants expected to feature in their first match of the season. Lomani said the new faces have brought excitement and competition into the squad.

“It’s been good having the new girls in and having 10 debutants for this round one.

“They really deserved this spot to be able to start and come off the bench as well. They’ve worked hard to earn this place and I’m excited to see them go out tomorrow,” she added.

With strong support expected from Fijian fans in Sydney and back home, Lomani also shared a message of appreciation to the Drua faithful.

“To all our friends, family and supporters out in Sydney, thank you very much for your love and support.

“We will definitely give a good game and hope you guys enjoy the match.”

The Drua Women will be aiming to start their campaign on a high as they take on a determined Waratahs outfit in what is expected to be a physical and fast-paced encounter.

The match kicks off at 4pm.
