THE Government is mobilising Water Authority of Fiji resources and Government Shipping Services to deliver drought relief to communities across the maritime islands.

Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau said assistance was being coordinated through commissioners, provincial officers and disaster management teams.

“Yes, the situation is, as I mentioned, it’s a drought situation,” he said.

“And we are organising as best as we can in order to provide relief.”

Ro Filipe said the response involved the mobilisation of WAF resources and coordination with provincial officers.

He said these officials were providing information to commissioners to help identify and prioritise communities requiring assistance.

“From there we are providing relief through those and prioritising, providing relief as per the resources we have, including through the Government Shipping Services.”

He said the National Disaster Risk Management Office was also involved through its various clusters, including water and agriculture, to coordinate the response.
