Local road authorities have stressed the point that drivers in Fiji are careless and some don’t respect road signs and do not respect road construction being carried out.
I believe this was evident with the death of an elderly woman at the weekend in Lami Town in a road accident.
A few days after that incident, the Commissioner of Police got injured.
The other day while travelling along the Kings Rd and at Naimasimasi Village in Tailevu there was road construction happening there. The stretch between the roadworks was quite long with very loose gravel and some drivers did not take note of it. They were speeding back and forth on this stretch.
I believe authorities issuing driving licences should probably spend more time with drivers before handing out their licence or they should undergo more tests until proven to be fit for driving.
