A cane knife allegedly used in the September 2025 alleged murder of Dr Isireli Biumaitotoya was recovered from behind an old fridge inside the victim’s home after the accused, Peceli Rosotokaicake Rokoravolo, disclosed its location.
Testifying before Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge, Crime Scene Investigation team leader Detective Sergeant Gasio Rokodulu said 20 exhibits were into evidence, including the blood-stained, wooden-handled knife and an extension cord bearing blood-like stains.
Detective Constable Edward Joseph Bibi confirmed documenting the scene through photos, post-mortem imagery, and a video reconstruction.
Members of Dr Biumaitotoya’s family, including his mother, attended the proceedings.
Defence lawyer Losana Taukei told the court that Mr Rokoravolo will testify tomorrow afternoon, running a dual defence of provocation and self-defence.
She submitted that prior events and a specific turning point where Dr Biumaitotoya allegedly attacked the accused triggered the incident.
Mr Rokoravolo plans to call three additional witnesses on Friday.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku told the court that relying on both provocation and self-defence is legally impossible, but Ms Taukei maintained she would proceed with both lines.
The prosecution expects to close its case tomorrow following testimony from Lautoka Aspen Hospital Pathologist Dr Pranil Kumar.
