Fijians who are presently on Vanua Levu and maritime islands and wish to return home to Viti Levu have until midnight tomorrow to register for this domestic repatriation.
A Government statement released today has confirmed that the registration will cease at midnight, on June 5, 2021.
Fijians are being reminded that they can only travel for genuine reasons, such as permanent relocation or medical reasons.
The statement says the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport has successfully registered more than 3400 Fijians who are stranded and are wanting to return home.
Within less than a week, the ministry has received more than 30,000 calls, more than 500 emails, and 300 Facebook messages for domestic repatriation since the announcement by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on May 29, 2021.
In addition, the ministry is working on the ‘Protocol for Movement for Domestic Repatriation’, which will apply to travellers, land transport providers, and vessel/aircraft operators.
The protocol is being developed to ensure all Fijians are safely repatriated, with minimal risks of transmission of the virus to people and communities in non-containment areas and islands.
The ministry has also requested Fijians who have yet to register to do so before midnight tomorrow through the following mediums:
- Call 163 and select option 2
- Direct Facebook message: @MCTTTFiji
- Email: domesticrepat@mcttt.gov.fj
