Vanua Levu has recorded 11 positive rapid tests of COVID-19.
Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Service’s permanent secretary Dr James Fong has confirmed that six cases had been reported from Taveuni and four in Tukavesi – both in the Cakaudrove province, and one in Seaqaqa, Macuata.
The ministry believes that early detections were linked to the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s rugby event that was held recently on Taveuni.
“Our team has escalated our surveillance and contact tracing tests,” Dr Fong said in an interview.
The ministry has urged people to keep wearing their masks and to get swabbed if they have flu-like symptoms, sore throat, headache, and body ache.
