Fijian Police recorded 46 arrests overnight for breach of public health restrictions like failing to wear a mask, gathering over grog and alcohol, and loitering during curfew hours.
Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the Western Division recorded 16 arrests, nine in the Eastern Division, and 19 in the Southern Division.
No cases were reported in the Central Division.
In the Western Division, ACP Tudravu said the 16 cases involved 11 people of Vatutu in Nadi, including a school teacher, who were found drinking grog.
He said the other four cases in Tavua were recorded for similar breaches, and in Lautoka – a 22-year-old man was arrested for failing to wear a mask while travelling in a public service vehicle.
For the Eastern Division, ACP Tudravu said of the nine arrests, seven were found without a mask while traveling in a public service vehicle in Levuka, and two cases of loitering during curfew hours were recorded in Nakasi.
The 19 arrests in the Southern Division included six people who were found drunk at the Samabula area; two were arrested at Raiwaqa drinking and loitering during curfew hours; five were arrested intoxicated at the Delainavesi area; one seaman in Lami also intoxicated; and four others found drunk along Ratu Dovi Rd in Nabua. The other case was that of a 20-year-old woman arrested for crossing the containment zone.
“The Northern Division recorded two cases, including a 26-year-old farmer who was found drinking during curfew hours, while two men in their 30s were arrested in Lajonia, Labasa, for not adhering to the health restrictions in place,” ACP Tudravu said.
