THE Lautoka City Council is revising its scope of works for the yet to be completed Lautoka swimming pool.
LCC special administrators’ chairperson Taitusi Rasoki said this was decided during a meeting yesterday to discuss the project’s future.
“I can confirm we had been asked by the Local Government Ministry to look within the council’s finances for the completion of the project,’ he said.
“After our meeting today, we decided that the scope of works will be revised and we will discuss the new conditions with our project consultant.
“For now, I won’t be able to give a complete figure for the funding of the works that is yet to be done. That will depend on our scope of works.”
He said the focus would be shifted to completing critical components of the project.
“The critical components are the pool itself and other important facilities like electrical and plumbing works.
“Other planned noncritical components will come at a later stage.
“So, we will complete it in stages.”
He said the completed pool would not host international sporting events for now.
“We will look at the critical components first which is the pool and get that open for the public.
“Once we are open, then we will go into upgrading it to host international meets.”
Mr Rasoki said they hoped to complete the project next year.
“The bottom line is for the project to be completed early 2027.
“I had a discussion again with the minister and what we are going to do now is revise the scope of works and have our project consultant focus on the finishing the critical component of the project.”
The council was advised by the Local Government Ministry to look internally for further funding after the ministry’s submission for additional allocation under the 2026-2027 National Budget was snubbed earlier this year.
