The positives taken from the Brumbies game has given the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua a lot of confidence heading towards round 12 of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific this weekend.
The Drua lost 20-28 to the Brumbies last Saturday but some aspects of their game were quite dominant especially in the scrums.
The Fijian franchise won 12 of the 15 scrums against the Brumbies, recording an 80 per cent success rate.
Overall, the Drua tops the team statistics with the most scrums won at 91 per cent.
Head coach Mick Byrne says these are aspects of the game that fuel the belief in players that they can get stuff done whether at home or on the road.
“The boys are confident in their preparation; they have a real belief in what they got out of the game in Canberra, their set-pieces coming together, and that sort of confidence builds,” he said.
Past results don’t always guarantee the same outcome, but the 31-13 round six win against the Western Force in Lautoka does build the confidence needed for their meet in Perth.
“We are confident from the point of view of our preparation. We know that we beat them (Western Force) in Lautoka so, on our day if we can play our best rugby, we are going to be competitive and stand a real chance,” Byrne added.
The new Flying Fijians coach stresses that confidence and mental fitness make up the winning equation for tomorrow’s clash.
“The work doesn’t get done by itself; the game starts with mindset. We must come ready to play, we’ll build up on the next few days and we will come ready on Saturday.”
Tomorrow’s clash against the Western Force will kick off at 11.55pm at HBF Park in Perth, Western Australia.
