The Fiji Meteorological Service has maintained a Coastal Inundation Alert for several southern coastal areas, warning that sea flooding is expected during high tides on Wednesday.

The alert remains in force for the southern coastal areas of the Mamanuca Group, southern Viti Levu from Momi through Sigatoka, Korolevu, Pacific Harbour to Suva, as well as the southern coasts of Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, a cool southeast wind flow continues to affect Fiji, while a high-pressure system interacting with a low-pressure system southwest of the country is expected to generate damaging heavy swells across Fiji waters.

These conditions are forecast to cause sea flooding in vulnerable coastal communities during high tides from Wednesday.

For today, cloudy periods with a few showers are expected across Navua, Suva, Nausori, Korovou, Rakiraki, Serua, Namosi, Naitasiri, Rewa, Tailevu, Ra, Kadavu, southern Bua, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove including Taveuni, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

Elsewhere, fine weather is expected apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Cool nights will continue, with moderate southeast winds gradually shifting east to northeast later today. Moderate seas are expected.

Residents in low-lying coastal areas covered by the alert are advised to monitor the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions ahead of the expected high tides on Wednesday.
