Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s head coach Mosese Rauluni was on his feet almost the entire 80 minutes of the Super W semi-final clash against the Western Force in Suva on Friday.
One would think there were no chairs in the coach’s box, but the passionate former Flying Fijians captain chose to stand so, he could watch the game live.
It could also be the pressure of the game that got him to abandon his chair but nonetheless his team achieved the goal they had set as the grand final awaits.
“I was more relaxed standing up because I was getting frustrated sitting down watching it on the screen, I wanted to watch it live. I shouldn’t have done that because Kele Leawere was standing next to me and he was a lot taller so, I looked a lot shorter on television,” he joked.
“It was a pretty pressure game and sometimes you don’t know what you’re doing up there.”
Pressure it was as the Drua were trailing 10-11 at halftime before turning things around in the second spell.
“Some of the calls may not have gone our way but the girls stuck at it and defended their lines. The girls were told to make their tackles and avoid penalties because we can’t get anymore cards and give points away as the Force kicker could kick from anywhere,” Rauluni said.
The team rebuilds again on Monday as they prepare for the grand-final showdown against the Waratahs next Sunday, 4pm at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
