The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has challenged divisional stakeholders to be bold in shaping the country’s climate action journey.
Senior climate change officer for mitigation Reeha Sharma made the call during the NDC3.0 Costed Implementation Plan workshop in Lautoka yesterday, stressing the strategy goes beyond figures.
“Why is this process so important? Because beyond the numbers and targets, the NDC is a promise to our communities, our children, and to the international community that Fiji will remain at the forefront of climate action,” she said.
“Fiji submitted its NDC3.0 in November 2025 and launched nationally and at COP30 in Belem, Brazil. Fiji’s NDC3.0 presents more ambitious and comprehensive targets than previous submissions represent a significant leap forward in Fiji’s climate action commitments.”
Ms Sharma said the targets included enhanced mitigation measures for energy, waste, agriculture and other land use (AFOLU), as well as adaptation priorities such as oceans, and loss and damage, alongside conditional and unconditional financing needs.
The Western Division consultation aims to identify specific sectoral pathways to turn national targets into fully costed projects.
Ms Sharma urged participants to bring their full expertise to advance a just and sustainable energy transition aligned with global efforts to limit temperature rise.
