A COMPETITION to recognise the cleanest town in Fiji is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, with municipalities set to compete on cleanliness and maintaining their urban environments.

Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa said preparations for the initiative had started last year.

“Most probably in the next few weeks we’ll be able to make an announcement on that,” Mr Nalumisa said.

“It’s something that we are all looking forward too.”

The competition is expected to encourage municipalities to improve waste management, maintain public spaces and promote cleaner surroundings for residents and visitors.

Further details, including the judging criteria and participating municipalities, are expected to be announced by the ministry.
