Turaga na Tui Drola Ratu Manasa Naikasowalu is anticipating for the island of Nacula in Yasawa to host more Skipper Cup matches in future.

Speaking to The Fiji Times on Saturday after Yasawa’s 35-25 win over Namosi at the Ratu Meli Memorial School ground, Ratu Manasa said it was a memorable occasion for Nacula to host the first Skipper Cup men’s and ANZ Marama Championship matched at their home ground.

“The vanua of Drola and the whole of Yasawa is happy to witness this historic match between Namosi and Yasawa,” Ratu Manasa said.

“We are also privileged to have the Turaga na Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, who is here with us.

“The vanua had prepared a traditional welcome ceremony for him (Ratu Suliano) coming to the Yasawa Islands and for us hosting the first Skipper Cup match in Yasawa. He (Ratu Suliano) visited us before during the reign of the previous Tui Drola and I’m grateful that he is here again during my time as the chief of Nacula.”

Ratu Manasa said there were plans to develop the game in Yasawa with the women and the under-20 teams.

“Not only with my role as the leader of Nacula but also I’ll be taking it up to the Great Council of Chiefs,” he said.
