THE Ministry of Education had appointed an Education Commission in the year 2000 to look into issues such as guiding students into their respective careers, says Permanent Secretary Selina Kuruleca.

But this Commission didn’t progress to implementing its report as the Government changed that same year.

In agreeing with what Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said last week about the education system failing to guide students into their careers by monitoring their strengths and weaknesses in various subjects, Ms Kuruleca said a lot of changes needed to be done.

“The Denarau Declaration outlines the seven thematic areas of MoE and we now have a plan on where we will go in the next one, three, five and 10 years,” she said.

“The last informed structure plan of the MoE was drafted in 2015.

“I agree that a lot of work is to be done and we have started, and we will do this systematically and in line with the Priorities of our Coalition Government.

“We will prioritize and work collaboratively with our partners – universities, higher education Commission and technical vocational schools including our own vocational Institutes and industry.”
