Prominent Ba farmer Kishore Chand who recently harvested over one tonne of paddy from his farm has urged other rice growers in the country to take advantage of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) initiatives.

The Balevuto, Ba advisory councillor said (MOA) Ba harvested close to 20 bags of good quality paddy for him that should sustain him for the rest of the year.

“I now have a supply of close to seven months of rice grains which will be consumed by my family, labourers during cane harvesting plus enough grains to grow rice for next year,” he said.

Mr Chand urged other growers “not to be a lazy farmer” and to make use of all the opportunities presented to them by the MOA.

“I don’t have to worry in case there is a shortage of rice in the market due to the pandemic, as I have enough in stock now.”

Mr Chand said he plans to increase his area of cultivation for paddy from one and a half acres to six acres for 2022.
