ARMY have been crowned the new champions of the 2025 Vodafone Sukuna Bowl cricket competition after securing a thrilling victory over Police by three wickets at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.
In a rematch against last year’s champions, Police took to the crease first and posted a total of 232 runs in 46 overs.
Delaimakutu shone with a top score of 52 runs. Undeterred, Army showcased their skills and determination by successfully chasing down the target in the 46th over, reaching a final score of 233 for 7.
Makutu Seru Tupou emerged as the standout performer, leading the charge with an impressive 78 runs, earning him the prestigious Man of the Match award.
Coach Taniela Naulivou praised the team’s stellar performance, emphasising the significance of defeating the defending champions as a monumental achievement and a positive start for the RFMF team.
“The team did really well, defeating the defending champions is a big achievement and a good start for the RFMF team,” said Naulivou.
“We have been preparing well for this competition, knowing Police for their experience in the sport, we came in prepared for this competition.”
Naulivou highlighted the team’s preparation and discipline as crucial elements in their success,
“It has always been the discipline from our players that got us the win, it is a great start for us, and with other sports lining up for the week, the RFMF team has one in the bag and hoping for more wins ahead.”
Expressing gratitude, Naulivou extended thanks to the team members for their hard work and dedication, as well as to the supporters whose presence and cheers provided motivation for the team’s triumph.
