In 2023, the Raiwaqa Health Centre recorded 1200 cases of non-communicable diseases, with one death for leptospirosis, says Health Ministry acting permanent secretary Dr Jemesa Tudravu.
Speaking at the opening of the Raiwaqa Medical Area Health Expo 2024 in Garden City, Raiwai yesterday, Dr Tudravu said out of the 1200 cases, 86 cases were leptospirosis, 313 cases of dengue fever, and six cases of typhoid.
“Communicable diseases are also often seen in the community, and we also aim to educate residents and members of the community to be more aware of health risks and factors that cause or spread these diseases,” Dr Tudravu said.
He urged members of the local community to come forward and make good use of the service provided.
“The health expo provides the opportunity for the health team in this medical area to connect with the community.
“It serves to inform members of this community on the health services that they can offer which members of the community can access.”
Services provided at the expo include free heart screening, blood pressure, and eye and ear check-ups by various health workers and stakeholders.
The health expo will end today at 4pm.
