Cava’s moment on a big stage

BOWING out of season five of The Voice in Australia was not heartbreaking for Ilisavani Cava.

He said it was the opportunity of having to perform on a big stage, a childhood dream since growing up in his Nausori home.

Prior to performing in the Blind Auditions, the young Naivilaca, Noco, Rewa native said they had to go through a series of auditions, workshops and training.

From the 4000 aspiring artistes that auditioned in Sydney in August last year, the 22-year-old was among the top selected after five auditions, to represent Sydney in the season premier of the television show.

He was among 90 other hopeful singers that were selected from around Australia.

For a week, he was among 15 other performers under the watchful eyes of international singing sensation Jessie J.

Despite going down to The Koi Boys in the next stage of performance, it was a learning experience.

“I am not stopping with my music definitely. I would love to record an album and hopefully collaborate,” Cava said.

“But one thing that I am really working hard on is giving back to the youths at home and hopefully get into teaching.”

Ili, as he is commonly known, has been living independently in Australia for the past six years pursuing a Degree in Music in Australia.

That experience has taught him a lot.

Standing on The Voice platform was an unforgetable experience for the youngster, who was one of the products of the Kaila Talent Star Search a few years ago.

Reaching the Australian stage and being noticed has opened a door for young and aspiring musicians.

“One thing I think I did is I had a breakthrough, kind of opened the door to our aspiring artistes back here that anything is possible.

“Like it did not take me having to grow up in Sydney to enter a big stage as such but it could take anyone to any stage.

“I left Fiji when I was 17 and I made it to the big stage when I was 22. And I think it can also be anyone else in Fiji, all you have to do is work hard and dream big.”
