CARING for her elderly mother and sick granddaughter has become a daily struggle for Vunika resident Sashi Kiran, who says life has been difficult with no reliable water supply for the past eight months.

She said the shortage had affected her ability to care for her family, particularly when it came to meeting their basic needs.

“It is very hard, very hard, very hard. Looking after them without water is really difficult,” she said.

Her granddaughter is unwell, while her elderly mother also depends on her care.

Ms Kiran, who has lived in the area for more than 50 years, said she had never experienced such an unreliable water supply during the day.

“I haven’t seen any water coming in the daytime. Sometimes we get water at about 1am, 2am or 3am, but we cannot stay awake throughout the night to collect it.”

She said the family had to collect and store water in buckets for bathing and other household needs.

“We have to fill the buckets. We only use water for our basic needs because if we use it for other things, we won’t have enough for the important things.”

The shortage had also forced her to abandon other household activities, including watering her garden.

She said she lodged a complaint on Monday and received a reference number but was still waiting for water carting services.

“I have already made a complaint, but nobody has come yet.

She called on the Government to urgently address the waterline problem, saying residents had endured enough hardship.
