MEMBER of Parliament Professor Biman Prasad has called for the removal of the Political Party’s Act and draconian measures put in place by the previous government.
Speaking to this newspaper, Prof Prasad said running a political party with the current laws had been a challenge.
“Unfortunately, we have not been able to revise those laws,” he said.
“I hope the Attorney-General and the Government will quickly bring to Parliament changes to the Political Parties Act and some of the draconian measures that was put in by the previous regime to control and manage their opponents.
“We need to get rid of those laws so that come the next election, everybody is free, without fear, and are able to campaign and articulate their policies and the work of their political parties.”
