THE Cakaudrove U20 team secured a hard-fought 24-13 victory over Tavua in their Vanua Challenge U20 quarter-finals match at Buckhurst Park Two in Suva on Wednesday, booking their third consecutive semi-final appearance.
Despite the victory, team captain and openside flanker Taniela Tora emphasized the need for immediate improvements as they prepare for the semi-finals.
“The number of penalties we conceded today (Wednesday) was disappointing,” Tora said.
“When we regroup, we will discuss our performance and what we need to improve before the semi-finals.”
Cakaudrove’s disciplined and composed effort kept them in control for most of the game, though Tavua showed strong determination in the second half.
The northerners’ steadfast defence ultimately denied the westerners any chance of a comeback.
Tora also expressed gratitude for the team’s strength and unity on the field. “I take this time to thank the Lord Almighty for the victory, for giving us the strength, the heart, and the ability to play as a team today,” he said.
Looking ahead, the team remains focused on their goal of winning the Vanua Challenge U20 competition this season after reaching three consecutive semi-finals in prior years.
