Cabinet has approved the review of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and the 10 sectoral minimum Wages Regulations (WRs), including proposals for new job classifications within the current WRs.
According to a government statement, the review will be undertaken by selected consultants and the outcome will be brought back to Cabinet for consideration.
Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh said the Government has started the review of the minimum wage rates and the Employment Relations Advisory Board (ERAB) will determine the outcome with assistance of a professional consultant.
“The Government, through the Ministry of Employment, has commenced work on the review of the minimum wage rates and the systems and processes involved, and structures in place to facilitate this important work,” Mr Singh said.
“The Government is now in the process of reinstating the ten wages councils, which were removed by the FijiFirst government.
“We have constituted the Employment Relations Advisory Boards (ERAB) in its proper form and they will determine the outcome with the assistance of a professional consultant in close consultation with the Finance Ministry.
“As part of governance, wider consultations will be carried out with stakeholders nationwide on the review.”
