BULA FC received a major boost after the 2026–2027 National Budget extended a key tax incentive scheme for a reduction in the minimum sponsorship threshold designed to attract wider private sector support.

Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel announced in Parliament that the 200 per cent tax deduction previously reserved for the Fijian Drua will now also apply to Bula FC.

Under the revised framework, the minimum sponsorship requirement has been reduced from $250,000 to $100,000, allowing more businesses to qualify for the incentive and contribute to sporting development.

A further 150 per cent tax deduction has also been introduced for investments in sporting facilities.

Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammed Yusuf welcomed the announcement, thanking the Government for extending the incentive to football.

He said the move would encourage greater corporate investment in the sport and strengthen the financial sustainability of both the national league and professional football structures.

“We thank the business community that is investing in sports. They will now get a fair rebate to continue supporting all sports.”

Mr Yusuf also confirmed Fiji FA will be making further submissions through the Ministry for Sports, particularly regarding direct funding allocations like the Drua.

He said the reduction in the sponsorship threshold would significantly widen participation from the private sector.

“More companies will be able to join in and support both Drua and Bula FC.”

On the impact for Bula FC, Mr Yusuf said the club would continue investing heavily in player development as it builds towards long-term success in the professional league.

“We are one of the highest paid teams in the league. We will continue to invest in our players so they can perform at a higher level.”

Bula FC, which finished third in its debut season before exiting in the quarterfinals, has set a four-year plan to achieve championship success.

Mr Yusuf also highlighted the new facility tax incentive as a major step forward for infrastructure development, confirming it will support Fiji’s planned $25 million stadium project in Lomolomo, Lautoka.

He said the club intends to take loans and reinvest any grants or tax-supported funding into building a high-performance centre.
