Nation building is a shared responsibility, says Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu at a panel discussion during the recent Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) congress that ended on Saturday at the Shangri-La Yanuca Island Resort in Sigatoka.
He said political stability, good governance, and the responsibility of building our nation wasn’t only the Government’s responsibility but all Fijians.
“I think, given our history, that’s important for all of us. We need to ensure that that is not only the responsibility of the Government, but is a shared responsibility. We’re all Fijians and we all have that responsibility to build our nation on the issue of political stability and good governance, and that’s something that we will continue to urge all of us to ensure that we do our part in that,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“Why I’m saying this is because political stability and good governance originates from the political leadership and then it’s passed on to the executive, the administration to execute.”
He said he wanted to rebrand the Opposition because adversarial politics was not good for Fiji.
“The Honorable Deputy Prime Minister (Professor Prasad) has talked about transparency, good governance is about the rule of law and it’s important that if you want to entice investments, if you want the economy to grow, it is our responsibility, and government to create that environment.
“I want to rebrand the Opposition, looking at national interests. I’ve spoken about this in Parliament, adversarial politics is not good for Fiji.”
Mr Seruiratu said the aim was to create a safe environment where there was political stability and good governance.
