BRUMBIES winger Henry Speight will spearhead a new hand-washing campaign designed to reduce contamination at public health facilities in the country.

This was revealed by Fiji Hospital Project CEO Paul Dyer at the Fiji Medical Association conference at the Lautoka Hospital yesterday.

“Getting people to wash their hands is a big thing,” Mr Dyer said.

“Even clinical staff let themselves down by not washing their hands often.

“There is going to be a big emphasis with visitors coming to the hospitals to wash their hands.

“We will have stations around the hospital and all the entrances.

“We have a high profile ambassador in Brumbies winger Henry Speight and the first task he will perform is (to be an) ambassador of hand-washing.”

Speight said he was delighted to be in the country and to be a part of the campaign.

“Washing hands is a simple thing but it is so effective in stopping the spread of bacteria and diseases, so I am just glad to be able to be here and help,” he said.

Mr Dyer is from Aspen Medical, the Australian firm that has been granted a contract to revamp the Lautoka and Ba Hospitals under a private-public-partnership with the Fijian Government.
