THE Pacific islands is an area of exceptional cricket talent.
Former Australian cricketer Nathan Bracken made this comment after witnessing some of Fiji’s cricket talent battling out at Albert Park in Suva on Saturday.
“When you look at rugby league and rugby union teams they target the Pacific, why? Because they are good athletes,” Bracken said.
The left-arm fast medium bowler said the time had come where cricket teams would be targeting the Pacific as well.
“One of the fast bowlers is six foot seven, a big, fit and massive bloke and if you are a batsman you see that standing at the other end, straight away you will think ‘oh well I am in trouble’ and that is the thing.
He said the key was getting those skills and developing them and fine-tuning it.
“It will get to the point where clubs all of a sudden will be wanting players to go and play great cricket in Sydney, when they are playing great cricket and continuing do that then it is about making the next step.”
Bracken said he would love to see a Fijian player walking out of the tunnel and playing in the Big Bash in Australia.
“It is all about getting that opportunity and taking it.
“It is happening in many sports around the world where somebody takes an opportunity or takes a risk and that is the thing.”
