MARYLENE Bower wishes to use her platform as Ms Nausori Plaza to highlight the issue of road accidents.

The 23-year-old is a contestant in the 2024 Vodafone Tebara Carnival.

“I’ve seen young people like myself who are not focused while walking because they have their heads down on their phones,” Ms Bower said.

“Things like that are one of the causes of road accidents, and I want to highlight that so people pay extra attention when on the roads.”

The Ovalau native, whose mother is from Kadavu, is  studying at the Fiji National University focused on graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in  Health Promotion.

“It’s been hard living at the hostel in Tamavua for the past year and living far from my family,” she said.

Her family were her biggest supporters and inspiration, especially her mother, Ms Bower said.

“But my mum always told me to work hard, try my best and get a good job so I could look after her and my family.

“So, that is why I try my hardest to excel at school.”

Her advice is to work hard and keep God first in your life.
