What started off as being total strangers to each other on the rugby turf has now turned into a different type of love story for two of the most influential 7s reps in Fiji.

Fiji Airways Fiji men’s playmaker Napolioni Bolaca and Fijiana 7s rep Laisani Likuceva will be making their first appearance as a married couple for the country at the Vancouver 7s in Canada this coming weekend.

Bolaca returns to the men’s national 7s side after two years while Likuceva has featured for the Fijiana side since February last year.

The two tied the knot in July 2023 after being together for more than three years.

“I had to pull out from the national team in February last year because I was pregnant at the time,” Likuceva said.

Bolaca returned from rehab after spending the past eight months recovering from surgery on his knee.

“We can’t do much because this is a call of duty for both of us in Vancouver and LA. We will do our best for our country and above all for our son who celebrated his first birthday this month,” she added.

Bolaca made his debut for the national side at the 2019 Singapore 7s tournament of the 2018-2019 World Rugby 7s Series and signed with the Drua back in 2022.

He was also the top points scorer in the 2019-2020 World Rugby 7s Series, with 159 points, and was part of the national 7s side that won gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Likuceva is also an Olympic bronze medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
