FIJIAN flair will once again light up rugby league’s biggest representative stage when players of Fijian heritage feature in Game Two of the State of Origin series next Wednesday.

The strong Fijian presence in the New South Wales Blues squad continues to highlight the growing influence of Fiji and the Pacific Islands in the National Rugby League competition.

Leading the Fijian contingent is Vodafone Fiji Bati hooker Apisai Koroisau, whose experience and leadership will be vital as the Blues look to strengthen their grip on the series.

Joining Koroisau in the squad is Mark Nawaqanitawase, who has been named on the extended bench following his impressive performances this season.

Blues coach Laurie Daley confirmed his 21-man squad for the clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with Koroisau coming into the side following the injury to Blayke Brailey.

The duo’s selection is further evidence of the significant contribution players of Fijian heritage continue to make at the highest level of rugby league.

Their achievements also serve as inspiration for young players throughout Fiji and the Pacific who dream of reaching the sport’s elite level.

State of Origin remains one of rugby league’s toughest and most prestigious contests, and the continued presence of Fijian-heritage players on this stage showcases the depth of talent emerging from the Pacific.

New South Wales holds a 1-0 lead in the series after producing the biggest comeback in Origin history to defeat Queensland 22-20 in Sydney on Round One.

The Blues will face the Maroons in Game Two at the MCG next Wednesday at 10.05pm.
