Block out all the outside doors, are the sentiments of Vodafone Fiji Bati centre Waqa Blake as the side prepares for its next 2024 Pacific Championship match against the Cook Islands Aitu this weekend.
Blake made the comment when reflecting on their loss against the Papua New Guinea Kumuls, following the end of training earlier this week.
Though the Bati were inflicted a 10-22 defeat by the Kumuls, he reasoned the side’s performance during the match last Saturday was fair.
“I didn’t think we played too bad (against the Kumuls), we just didn’t take opportunities when they came and then they (Kumuls) capitalised on it.”
While Blake remains hopeful the Bati will attain victory this week, he also acknowledged they needed to enhance their level of preparation through training and working hard.
Blake also stated the team will work on themselves, as they continue gearing up to their second game against the Aitu.
“We just have to worry about ourselves, I think last year we had a close game against them and we almost that one,” Blake shared while referring to their previous clash against the Aitu last year in the 2023 Pacific Championships, where the Bati defeated the Aitu 22-18 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Meanwhile, Blake, born and raised in Lautoka, made his international debut with the Bati in 2017.
