THE champions of Cairns are heading to Sigatoka with their sights set on conquering the Coral Coast.

Bougainville outfit Black Orchid 7s will make their debut at the 15th McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s after being confirmed for the tournament, which runs from January 14-16, 2027, at Lawaqa Park.

The Papua New Guinea side earned their place among the international contenders after winning the Cairns 7s and will now face a tougher examination against some of the region’s best sevens teams.

Their inclusion adds another international flavour to the prestigious tournament, while providing a platform for Bougainville’s rugby talent to showcase its potential against established sevens sides.

Tournament chairman Jay Whyte said the organisers were delighted to welcome the Cairns champions, describing their participation as an opportunity to strengthen rugby ties across the Pacific.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Black Orchid 7s to Sigatoka for the first time. Their recent success at the Cairns 7s demonstrates the quality, determination and ambition of this exciting team,” Whyte said.

The tournament will feature competition for the prestigious i-Wau Trophy and a $50,000 first prize for the men’s champions.

With the theme ‘Feel the Passion Ignite’, admission will be free throughout the three-day tournament, giving fans the opportunity to witness international sevens action at Lawaqa Park.
