National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad has refused to rule out the possibility that political forces may have worked against him before his resignation as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.
Speaking on The Fiji Times online portal The Lens@177, Prof Prasad said politics was an environment where leaders should expect attempts to undermine them.
“You would be a naive politician to think that things like that don’t happen,” he said.
“It happens everywhere. In every country, in every political party, in every government.”
While declining to make a definitive allegation, Prof Prasad said he could not rule out the possibility that there had been a plot to remove him from the Ministry of Finance.
Prof Prasad stressed that the charge before the courts was unrelated to his ministerial duties and involved allegations dating back to 2015.
“The point is that I was charged and I took a decision.”
“There was nothing to do with my office, nothing to do with anything that I did in government.”
He said political leaders should not assume everyone supported their leadership.
“The plot could be from outside, the plot could be from inside, it could be from anywhere.”
“But political environments are always like that. That’s a fact.”
When asked whether he would reveal any evidence of a plot in future, Prof Prasad joked that he may leave such revelations for a book after his political career ends.
“Maybe when I write my book after I finish from politics, I could talk about some of those plots.”
