Batiri students trade fruits for cash

Update: 5:46PM SPENDING their holidays selling fruits by the Seaqaqa highway is an enjoyable task for children of Batiri in Macuata.

With an orange shed to shelter them from the heat, the
students who sit behind piles of water melons and oranges eagerly served customers travelling along the highway.

With smiles on their faces, they would
yell out, moli, moli, meleni, gunu vinaka sau vinaka (oranges, oranges,
watermelon taste good, cheap price).

One of the children,Temo Takayawa says it is a
good opportunity to earn some money during the school break.

“We
need money to buy things during our school holidays
so we all planned to come here and sell oranges and fruits,” he said.
