Over $268,000 was raised yesterday during the Frank Hilton Amazing Wheelbarrow “Bara Battle” Race at Albert Park in Suva.
The Frank Hilton chief executive officer, Sureni Perera, confirmed that this was the highest amount of money raised in donations in all their past fundraising events and labeled the race as a huge success.
“The race was a resounding success this year. We didn’t think we would be able to raise this much, but through the support of many volunteers and other organizations, we were able to do so,” she said.
More than 10 teams took part in the race, but it was team Vodafone that came out in first place and was followed by team Bluescope and BSP Bank.
“We also had many supporters that gathered here today to support their respective teams and advocate for people living with disabilities.”
The annual event is held to help raise funds for people living with disabilities.
“This is probably one of the best races we’ve had since it started back in 2016.”
“We are very grateful to all the teams that participated, they are all winners because they came out to give their all.”
“They gave out their time to attend all the training for our event, and we are thankful for this.”
“This year we managed to raise $268,884 and this is the biggest amount we’ve raised since we first started the competition.”
The race started at 7am yesterday, and each team needed to complete three rounds around Albert Park before arriving at the finish line.
“There were so many different colored costumes and wheelbarrows, so it was a very fun event for everyone.
“We also had the Police band that came out to perform for us as well and that added to the hype at the race.”
