Mainstream financial institution BRED Bank Fiji and Vodafone Fiji subsidiary Digital Financial Services Pte Ltd (DFS) yesterday launched their partnership to introduce new QR payment capability using the BRED Fiji Connect app.
This partnership expands payment accessibility for BRED Bank customers and allows them to scan the M-PAiSA QR and pay directly from their bank account at all M-PAiSA QR merchants nationwide.
“This is an important step forward making everyday payments simpler and more seamless,” BRED Bank Fiji chief executive officer Pierre Tastet said.
“Customers can now pay without relying on cards, and without first transferring funds into a mobile wallet before completing a transaction.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment with DFS to make digital payments more accessible, practical and convenient for customers across Fiji.”
DFS general manager Shailendra Prasad said the launch marked the country’s first interoperable QR partnership between the bank and M-PAiSA.
He said over the last few years, M-PAiSA had invested significantly in building Fiji’s largest QR payment acceptance network, connecting thousands of merchants and mobile wallet users.
“Through this partnership, BRED Bank customers will now be able to pay at more than 6500 merchant counters directly from their BRED Fiji Connect app,” Mr Prasad said.
He said this partnership was also built on collaboration rather than duplication.
“In a market the size of Fiji, leveraging existing infrastructure allows us to expand access more quickly, efficiently and cost effectively.
“Instead of creating separate merchant networks, we are enabling customers and businesses to benefit from a shared ecosystem that works for everyone.”
Mr Prasad said for merchants, this partnership meant access to a broader customer base.
“This launch is also aligned with Fiji’s broader digital payments roadmap and complements the ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and modern payments landscape.”
Under this initiative, payments is limited to a minimum of $0.10 to a maximum of $10,000 – subject to customer transaction limits; a fee of $0.10 applies for the first and second QR payments, and $0.40 from the third QR payment onwards per day; and only successful payments are charged.
